Chapter 11 |
Progress was the last
word vendors were using to describe Neostar's Chapter 11 filing.. up until October 30th, 1996. The
day I like to call "Doomsday" entailed a phone call at about 3pm saying that
today was our last day open. In fact, every mall that had duplicate stores (S Etc and
Babbage's) had one close down. Supposedly the least profitable store went (which was
certainly not the case.. our lease was up around March of '97 but the Babbage's had
another 5 years or so). We had the 30th and the 31st to pack up the entire staff and
inventory and move it to the Babbage's store. Probably the only amusing part was that our
store was about twice the size as the Babbage's. Needless to say, they didn't have to
worry about inventory for awhile. We were quick to remind ourselves that "at least we still had jobs." We later were quick to add "then again...." |
